Identify Where You Placed the Order

Before you try to track anything, confirm where the order was placed. Following are the optios:

Shack App or Website

You’ll see order updates inside the app or on the web order page. Statuses typically move from Received → Preparing → Ready for Pickup (for pickup orders) or Received → Preparing → Out for Delivery → Delivered (for delivery orders fulfilled through the app).

Delivery Partner

If you ordered via Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub, or Postmates, the most accurate tracking usually lives inside that partner’s app. You’ll see the courier’s name, vehicle details, map location, and ETA that updates as the driver moves.

Tracking an Order in the Shack App

Open the app and tap into your most recent order. You’ll find a clean timeline plus any notes from the restaurant or driver. If you checked out as a guest on the web, open the confirmation email or SMS and use the link to view live status.

What the common statuses mean

  • Received: Your order was accepted.
  • Preparing: The team is cooking your items. During peak hours, this phase can take longer, especially for large orders.
  • Ready for Pickup: For pickup orders, the bag is on the pickup shelf/window/counter.
  • Out for Delivery: A courier has your food and is en route to your address.
  • Delivered/Completed: The handoff is marked done. If you can’t find the order, check the delivery notes (front desk, doorman, porch).

Make sure app notifications are enabled on your phone. You’ll get pings when the order moves to Preparing, Ready, and Out for Delivery.

Tracking Order Through Delivery Apps

If you placed the order directly in a delivery app, their live map helps you to track order. Open the order details to see:

  • Driver assignment: If no courier is available, the platform will keep searching. ETAs can shift during this stage.
  • Live location: Once a driver accepts, you’ll see movement on the map.
  • Driver contact tools: Many apps allow in-app calling or messaging, use this if your location is hard to find.
  • Order notes: Look for “left at door,” “handed to recipient,” or “left with reception” after delivery

Keep your phone off silent, Drivers often call if they can’t find your location. A quick pick up avoids a return or cancellation.

Pickup Orders: Know Exactly When to Leave

Pickup tracking is simple: watch for Ready for Pickup in the app or web link. Arriving too early means waiting; arriving too late may affect freshness.

What to bring and where to go

  • What to bring: Your name and order number are usually enough, keep the confirmation handy on your phone.
  • Where to go: Look for signs that say Pickup, Shelves, Window, or Order Ahead. If you’re unsure, ask a team member, no need to stand in the main ordering line.

Troubleshooting: When Tracking Seems “Stuck”

Even the best systems can lag during rushes. Here’s how to avoid common issues and fix them fast.

“Preparing” for longer than expected

  • What it means: The kitchen is busy or batching items (e.g., fries and chicken during a surge).
  • What to do: Give it a few extra minutes. If the time estimate has shifted by more than one projected window, use the in-app help option to check status.

“Out for delivery” but the map isn’t moving

  • What it means: The driver may be waiting for an elevator, stuck at a light, or temporarily paused.
  • What to do: Watch for a couple of minutes. If the pin hasn’t moved at all and your ETA keeps extending, message or call the driver through the delivery app. If you ordered in the Shack App, use the help tools shown in your order page.

Marked “Delivered,” but you can’t find the order

  • Check the notes: Drivers often note “left at door,” “with doorman,” or “front desk.”
  • Look around: Check lobby tables, vestibules, side doors, or package rooms.
  • Still missing? Contact support through the channel you used to order. The platform or the Shack team will investigate and resolve.

The driver can’t find your entrance

  • Add precise instructions: Gate codes, building names, cross streets, or “use south entrance by the pharmacy.”
  • Meet halfway: If safe, meet your driver at the lobby or curb to speed up the handoff and keep food hot.
How to

How To Modify or Cancel Order?

Once the restaurant starts preparing, options become limited.

If you used the Shack App or website

Open your order details and look for Modify or Cancel. If those aren’t available, the kitchen is likely already working on your food. You can still use Help/Support to ask for guidance, especially for urgent issues (wrong address, duplicate order).

If you used a delivery partner

Open the partner app and check whether the Edit or Cancel button appears. Policies vary by platform and timing; fees may apply if the courier is already assigned or if prep has begun.

Tips to Reduce Delays and Keep Food Fresh

  • Order just before peak: Placing the order 15–20 minutes before the lunch or dinner rush can shorten prep time and stabilize ETAs.
  • Choose the nearest Shack: If your city has multiple locations, pick the closest for quicker handoffs.
  • Be precise with addresses: Add apartment numbers, building letters, landmarks, and gate codes.
  • Meet your driver promptly: If “Arriving soon” pops up, step toward the entrance to speed things up.
  • Consider pickup for max crispiness: Fries and chicken hold better when you cut out the extra travel time.

Open the app, go to your recent order, and follow the status timeline. Turn on push notifications for “Preparing,” “Ready,” and “Out for Delivery.”

Track it in the same delivery app you used. That’s where you’ll see the live map, driver contact, and photo proof of delivery.

Check delivery notes (doorman, lobby table, porch), look around common areas, then contact support through the channel you used. Provide your order number and any delivery photos.

Sometimes, act quickly. If prep hasn’t started or a driver isn’t assigned, you might be able to cancel or edit in the app. If not, use the help option to see what’s possible.

Place the order right before peak, add precise delivery instructions, choose the nearest Shack, and keep your phone handy so you can meet the driver promptly.
